Android Jelly Bean

Android Jelly Bean Launching In 4th Quarter of 2012 ?

Many people are still waiting for Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) to be released for their smartphone, but that hasn't stopped rumours of an imminent launch of the next version circulating online.

Infact, 3G reported on rumours from earlier in the month that suggested that Android Jelly Bean (5.0) would be launching in the Summer of this year. However, new information has suggested this rumour was way off the mark.

In an interview with Computerworld Hiroshi Lockheimer, who is Vice president of mobile engineering at Google, stated that "There's a lot of engineering work behind it still, and there's also just the question of how to time it.". He then went on to add that "In general, the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still."

Android 4.0 launched back in October, so if we're waiting another year from that point we should expect Android Jelly Bean to launch in the last quarter of 2012. That does seem more reasonable because by then Android Ice Sandwich would have had enough time to roll out to supported smartphones.

Once we hear anything more about future released of Google Android, including version 5.0, you'll be the first to know.
